Over the past couple of weeks, Business Ambassadors from the Chamber (in partnership with the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association, Zero Waste, and COBI staff) have been roaming the island in teams, from Winslow to Rolling Bay, Day Road to Lynwood Center and all commercial districts in between.
These community-minded Islanders have been checking in, offering support, and sharing insights with the dozens of local businesses who will be affected by the first round of COBI waste reduction measures (that will go into effect on January 1, 2022).
So far, the vast majority of Island businesses have been at least somewhat familiar with the upcoming regulations, and many already had policies in place to be in compliance ahead of time.
Suggestions and feedback was also given, with regard to a second set of potential waste reduction initiatives which are about to enter the public stage of City Council discussions, with the potential to be in effect on January 1, 2023.
The Chamber warmly thanks our Business Ambassadors for all their hard work in what has been an extensive door-to-door effort.
If your food/drink service establishment has not yet been visited, please contact the chamber and we will get you on the list…
Not sure what this is all about?
The key elements of those discussions are summarized in a simple poster (which was mailed out by City Staff in October):
The data and feedback gathered by the Business Ambassador teams will be shared with the City Manager and staff later in the month and utilized to make the January 1 changes as simple and smooth as possible.
