Over the past few weeks, The Chamber and Bainbridge Youth Services have been excited to invite all current elementary, middle and high school students of Bainbridge Island to enter their artwork to become the winner of the official Grand Old 4th 2022 Poster Contest.
Dozens of young Islanders entered the contest – some through their schools, some via special open sessions at Winslow’s Scrappy Art Lab, and some as solo home-based efforts, all in pursuit of a $500 cash prize to support their artistic endeavors, courtesy of a generous sponsorship by Chamber Champions Puget Sound Energy.
Within what then became a vigorous judging process, all of the 50+ submitted entries were laid out on the chamber’s new conference table and advanced through multiple rounds of cuts until 6 finalists were chosen and then an overall winner and 5 honorable mentions finalized.
In the words of the Chamber’s Grand Old 4th Chair Jessica Perkins Miller – “We had an incredible field of entries this year from all grade levels and it was hard to select just one poster to represent our community’s indelible event: They were all fantastic!”
The Chamber echoes Jessica’s sentiment and would like to especially thank the finalists for 6 incredible designs that made for lively debate – but in the end, the 5 honorable mentions went to:
- Isiah Tweitan, 15
- Abigail Huck, 14
- Kieran Markham, 13
- Romy Greer, 11
- Margaret Taylor, 10
